1st day - Arrival in Sicily
Arrival at the airport of Catania, transfer to Giardini di Naxos. Accommodation at the hotel, dinner and overnight.
2nd day - Taormina – Alcantara valley - Etna
Breakfast and departure for Taormina, one of the most famous holiday destinations in Sicily, on the top of a hill and overlooking the sea, offers a beautiful view of the Mediterranean, its coasts and of Etna. Visit the city with the elegant Corso Umberto; the church of San Nicolò, the castle of Taormina situated on a hilltop that dominates the entire city; Corvaja Palace the most important medieval palace of the city; the Greek theatre, second for size in Sicily after Siracusa. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon drive to the Alcantara gorges, a place of extraordinary beauty formed by a lava flow that thousand years ago blocked the river and thanks to the water that cooled the lava quickly, created the splendid prismatic sculptures. Return to the hotel along the slopes of Etna. Dinner and overnight.
3rd day Siracusa – Noto
After breakfast departure for Siracusa, splendid Greek city and visit the archaeological site. The Greek theatre, one of the most imposing examples of Greek architecture , fully created from the rock; the ara of Gerone, sacrificial altar; the Roman amphitheatre the largest in Sicily; the Latomia of Paradise, ancient cave that includes the Ear of Dyonisus, a calcareous formation, that has a very particular effect; the Duomo built on a temple dedicated to Athena of which the columns are evident at the sides of the church. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon, visit the town of Noto, the capital of sicilian baroque. Visit the Duomo, with its very important stairway, rebuilt after the collapse of 1996; the Archibishop’s Palace (XIX century); Landolina di Sant’Alfano Palace and the smooth lines of the Ducezio Palace. Return to the Hotel, dinner and overnight.
4th day - Piazza Armerina - Agrigento
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for Piazza Armerina for the visit of the Villa Del Casale, a luxurious house with galleries, peristyles, courtyards and thermal baths, famous worldwide for its mosaic floors. Continuation to Siracusa and free time for lunch. In the afternoon visit the Valley of Temples One of the most representative archaeological sites of the Greek civilization with rests of Doric temples. Accommodation at the Hotel in Agrigento, dinner and overnight.
5th day - Selinunte and Segesta
After breakfast departure for Selinunte. Visit the archaeological site , considered the most large and imposing of Europe, composed by five temples built around an acropolis and various altars and shrines. Free time for lunch. In the afternoon continuation with the visit of Segesta, of great beauty is the temple in Doric style, and the theatre partly built into the rock along the side of the hill. Drive to Palermo, accommodation at the Hotel, dinner and overnight.
6th day – Palermo
Breakfast and full day for the visit of the city of Palermo. The Norman Palace, also known as Royal Palace, that nowadays is the seat of the Sicilian local government and that houses the most significant monument of the Arab Norman art the Palatine Chapel. The church of San Giovanni degli Eremiti, built on the ruins of a previous religious building of the XII century, with its red domes is one of the most significant testimonies of the Arab presence in Palermo. Martorana built in Norman period and decorated with beautiful mosaics of the XII century. The Cathedral of the Assunta that preserves the tombs of the Norman Emperors and the relics of Santa Rosalia, patron of the city. Dinner and overnight at the Hotel.
7th day – Monreale and Cefalù
Breakfast at the Hotel. Departure for Monreale and visit its famous Duomo and Benedictine Cloister dedicated to Santa Maria Nuova, and considered one of the most spectacular temples of Christianity, embellished inside by an extraordinary mosaic decoration. Free time for lunch.
In the afternoon, continuation to visit Cefalù one of the most important beach resorts of Siciliy. The town, part of the Parco delle Madonie, is included in the club of the “most beautiful villages of Italy. To be visited: the Norman Duomo the Osterie Magno, the Mandralisca museum that houses finds from ruins around Cefalù and the Eolie isles; on a hill overlooking the city you may visit the so called Temple of Diana. Dinner and overnight at the hotel
8th day – Palermo
After breakfast transfer to the airport in Palermo and departure.
